How do I get there? caret-down

Southeastern run regular trains from London St Pancras and Victoria to Margate. The journey is around 1 ½ hours.

Driving from London takes around 2 hours. We do not have on-site parking, however there are free parking spaces within a five minute walk of the hotel on Fort Crescent and Lower Fort Promenade. There is a pay and display car park in Trinity Square, a two minute walk. The car park has fast charging for electric cars.

Arrival and Departure

What are the check-in and check-out times? caret-down

Check-in is from 3-10pm and check-out at 11am. If you’d like to arrive earlier or leave later then please get in touch with us on the day and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.


Do you have 24 hour access? caret-down

The hotel main entrance is open  7am-10pm Sunday-Tuesday and 7am-11pm Wednesday-Saturday. You can access the side entrance with your swipe card at all times.


Is breakfast included? caret-down

Unless you have selected a special rate, our rates are on a room only basis.

Breakfast is served from 7am until 11:30 Monday to Saturday and 8am until 11:30 on Sunday.


When is the restaurant open? caret-down

Breakfast is served from 7am until 11:30am Monday to Saturday and 8am until 11:30 on Sunday.

We offer all day dining from 12 noon until 21:30, 7 days a week.


When is the bar open? caret-down

Fort Road Bar is open Wednesday and Thursday 5pm-10pm, Friday and Saturday 5pm-1am, and Sunday 5pm-10pm.


 It has capacity for 60 guests and is available for full or partial hire. We cater for events ranging from celebrations to day time corporate hire. Please contact for availability and information.

Roof Terrace

When can I access the roof terrace? caret-down

The Roof Terrace is for hotel residents only. It is a fantastic spot to enjoy the view over Margate and the coast. Drinks and snacks are available on request via reception. You are welcome to enjoy the terrace from Monday to Sunday, 7am to 9pm but please be conscious of our neighbours while you enjoy the space.

Booking, Cancellations and Non-Arrivals Policy

What is the policy for booking, cancelling and for non-arrivals? caret-down

Our standard rate is paid in full four days before check in, when the free cancellation period ends. Any cancellations made after 3pm four days before check in, cannot be refunded or rescheduled.

We offer an advance purchase rate which has a 10% discount when the booking is made 14 days before arrival. This is paid in full upon booking and cannot be refunded or rescheduled.

All rooms and rates are subject to availability. Where specific rooms have been requested all reasonable effort will be made to honour such requests.


Payments caret-down

We accept all major credit cards including Amex.

Where a card has been secured against the booking, guests are invited to charge food and beverage consumed during their stay to their room. They may be asked to sign for room charges.

Upon check-out all outstanding charges must be paid for in full.


Do the Rooms have Air Conditioning? caret-down

All sea view rooms and the suite have air conditioning.

The other rooms are naturally ventilated, with openable windows, and fans.

Do the rooms have TVs? caret-down

Three of the rooms have TVs. If you require a TV please ask on booking and we will do our best to accommodate.

Is there free wifi? caret-down

Free wifi is available in all rooms, restaurant and bar. The password is on your room card wallet.

Extra beds

Can I get an extra bed? caret-down

We are able to provide a cot for children up to three years of age. We provide the cot, mattress and sheet, but ask that any soft bedding needed is brought from home for children of this age.

We have travel beds and bedding which can be provided for children of up to 12 years old.

Adding an additional cot or travel bed is only available in our seaviews, superior seaview rooms or suite. Please note that the maximum occupancy of the rooms is 3. We are unable to accommodate extra beds for adults or older children.

Some of our rooms can connect to accommodate more guests. Please contact if you need to be in a connecting room.

Please do let us know in advance if you require any of the above.


Are pets allowed? caret-down

The Fort Road Hotel can accept a limited number of small, well-trained dogs in some of our hotel rooms at our discretion. We will need to know the breed of your dog before accepting the reservation. Dogs must not be left alone in the hotel room at any point during the stay.

To cover extra cleaning there is a charge of £20 per dog. This charge does not apply to Guide or Assistance dogs.

We can provide dog bowls and a wooden dog bed frame subject to availability. We do not provide soft bedding for animals.

What is your damage policy? caret-down

We reserve the right to charge your credit/debit card for any damages to your room or the hotel during your stay This includes damage or staining to any of our linen or soft furnishings, as well as for any items which as missing after check out, such as Haeckels toiletries or glass mugs.
We also reserve the right to judge acceptable levels of noise and suitable behaviour that may compromise the enjoyment of other guests. If no reasonable action is taken by the guest when asked to do so, we reserve the right to terminate the booking without being liable for a refund or compensation.

Rooms keys that are not returned upon check-out are subject to a £25 fee.


Can I smoke in the hotel? caret-down

The Fort Road Hotel is a non-smoking hotel and does not permit smoking or vaping in any indoor areas of the hotel or on the roof terrace.

Disabled Access

What is the accessibility like for wheelchair users? caret-down

Access for wheelchairs is through the side entrance of the hotel. We have a lift that services every floor of the building, apart from the roof terrace and lower bar, which are accessed by a staircase.

One of our Superior Seaview rooms is fully accessible with bathroom rails, safety alarm and a wet room style shower. Please contact if you require this room specifically.

We do not have on-site parking, however there are free parking spaces within a five minute walk of the hotel on Fort Crescent and Lower Fort Promenade. There is a pay and display car park in Trinity Square a two minute walk from us, for electric car charging, there are 2 ports at the Turner Contemporary car park.


Do you offer Vouchers? caret-down

We use Vouchable as our voucher provider. Vouchers issued can be used for both the restaurant and hotel. They are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
